Transformational Ethics
Ethics is experiential knowledge that is known with the Mind, Body, Heart and Soul
Ethics education is – can be-the terrain of personal development and transformation. As holistic
practitioners, we have chosen a vocation that requires constant renewal of mind, body, heart and
soul if we want to avoid burnout, take joy in our work and grow in service to others. We learn
many skills along the way, we study and gain knowledge. Perhaps the worthiest skill is the
ability to offer our clients our best self; perhaps our higher self. Ethics education then becomes a
journey of growth and transformation!
Title: Ethics as Right Use of Power – Using your power with wisdom and skill
Course Description:
The heart of ethics is human relationships. Skillful and wise use of power is central to our work
as holistic practitioners. Our power is role dependent. Power is relational energy and impacts all
we do. The word power may elicit different responses for different people. Power is often felt to
have a hard edge, implying a sort of one-up position or control over another. This definition of
power is far too limited. Power either heals or is disempowering. This approach guides you into
a deeper understanding and connection with your individual relationship with power and the
impact this has on the therapeutic relationship. Understanding and managing the complex
dynamics of the power differential allows us to offer wise and trustworthy care to those we
serve. Learn to express your power with wisdom and skill.
What you will learn:
As a result of attending this course participants will demonstrate proficiency in understanding the
multiple dynamics of the power differential. You will explore and gain an understanding of
power as relational energy, and gain deeper insight into personal habits, beliefs and tendencies
related to power and the impact this has on the therapeutic relationship. You will gain clarity and
increased sensitivity of the experience of being in less powerful and more powerful places in
relationship. Students will learn to distinguish between personal power and role power. You will
learn to embody Right Use of Power in Action.
Relevance of Course:
Using our professional power with wisdom and skill is the heart of ethical awareness. Power
either heals or is disempowering. The forgotten beauty of power is the side that is creative and
wise, the side that promotes healing and empowerment. This approach guides you to a deeper
understanding and connection with your relationship with power and the impact this has on the
therapeutic relationship. Understanding and managing the power differential is crucial to right
relationship with your client.

Title: Ethics as Soul Work – Exploring the Soul of Ethical Service
Course description:
Ethics is the terrain of personal development and transformation. Our work becomes a spiritual
practice that reflects our inner journey. We have chosen a vocation that requires constant renewal
of mind, body, heart and soul – if we want to avoid burn out, take joy in our work and grow in
service to others. Ethics as Soul Work is a natural outgrowth of the following question - Who
am I bringing into the session room? Ethical matters are often individual matters. The Dalai
Lama states, “We must be on the journey of preparing our own hearts and action, before we can
offer healing to others. I have always believed it is the presence of the therapist that brings
most healing into the therapeutic relationship. Perhaps like truth, the weaving of ethics and soul
is not something to be known, but something to BE. This learning landed well within my heart. I
hope it lands well with yours.
What you will learn:
As a result of attending this course, participants will experience a deeper understanding of their
own ethical nature and deep roots. The seven “soul qualities” covered in class are woven
together to create an entire tapestry that will inspire you to explore the self that serves another.
Students will come to understand the ethical conduct of professional relationships is often a
complicated and delicate topic. This learning will take you down the path of awakening,
compassion and empowerment, a path that brings forth what is necessary to offer wise and
trustworthy care to your clients. You will come to appreciate that ethics is lived teaching,
deepened by experience.
Relevance of Course:
The study and exploration of ethics reaches far beyond a professional requirement. It is more
than good intentions, knowing and following, to the best of our understanding our external code
of ethics, law and legislation. Ethics has to do with the most interesting parts of our human life
such as self-awareness, intimacy, authenticity, integrity, service, virtues, power, gratitude and
love. This approach guides you to a deeper understanding and connection with yourself. What
does it mean to truly serve another? Can we live more deeply into the self-hood that is our
birthright?
Learning Platforms: In person, Interactive online, Weekend Retreat, Teacher Training

Title: Ethics as Self Care - Caring for yourself inside and outside the therapeutic relationship
Course description:
Is self-care an ethical issue? Does lack of self-care disrupt our ability to be present with our
clients? As massage therapists and body-workers, we tend to focus our energies and attention
toward service and care of others to the detriment of our own care. Out of deep commitment to
service and healing, we frequently forget when we are burned out, our clients will not be getting
the level of professional care we are capable of offering.
In this class we will explore this topic through 2 lenses. One lens is exploring self-care inside the
therapeutic relationship – holding the space with integrity, conscious intention and skillful use of
professional power. The other view is your relationship to self-care outside the therapeutic
relationship - nourishing yourself with Right Thinking, Right Action, and Right Living. This
class is for those who desire a deeper understanding of caring for yourself inside and outside the
session room.
What you will learn:
As a result of attending this course this course, students will come to understand the broad lens
of self-care. Together we will explore topics such as; helping prison, self-less vs. self-full
service, risks of our role, impact of inadequate self-care, living from the inside –out, learning to
be proactive inside the therapeutic relationship, and much more. Class will be filled with self -
reflective questions, interactive discussions, and sharing of stories.

the participant into a deeper understanding of self-care and our responsibility around this issue.

Title: Power of Communication and Presence – Developing a Healing Attention
Course description:
Everyone has a compelling need for recognition of being. Paying attention to another is a
consideration of a basic human need. Clients have 3 main requests they rarely voice in the
session room; "Do you see me, do you hear me and do authentically care?" How do we know our
client feels seen and heard? This interactive course offers each student specific ways of
developing a healing attention within the therapeutic relationship. Kathy gently invites each
student into the practice of various disciplines which foster attentive presence such as stillness,
quiet presence, mindfulness, deep listening and simply learning to be with another - to pay
attention and to feel comfortable in the Pause. This class is for anyone who wishes to offer a
most beautiful way of being with your client.
What you will learn:
As a result of attending this course, students will have a clear answer to the following questions;
what kind of experience do I wish to offer my client, do I try too hard or help too much, how do I
deliver information and can I simply listen? You will come to understand the power of sacred
silence, enhancing listening skills and three covenants of holding space for your client.
Relevance of Course:
Most of us were never really taught how to listen, how to simply be with another person.
Choosing to be present and deeply listen to our clients is one of the most caring and affirming
gifts we can offer. When we bring our whole self as a listener to the caring relationship, we can
be in touch with life at a very deep level. This course reveals the art and skill of being a healing
listener.
