Ethics as Soul Work
Exploring the Soul of Ethical Service
Course description:
Ethics is the terrain of personal development and transformation. Our work becomes a spiritual
practice that reflects our inner journey. We have chosen a vocation that requires constant renewal
of mind, body, heart and soul – if we want to avoid burn out, take joy in our work and grow in
service to others. Ethics as Soul Work is a natural outgrowth of the following question - Who
am I bringing into the session room? Ethical matters are often individual matters. The Dalai
Lama states, “We must be on the journey of preparing our own hearts and action, before we can
offer healing to others". I have always believed it is the presence of the therapist that brings
most healing into the therapeutic relationship. Perhaps like truth, the weaving of ethics and soul
is not something to be known, but something to BE. This learning landed well within my heart. I
hope it lands well with yours.
What you will learn:
As a result of attending this course, participants will experience a deeper understanding of their
own ethical nature and deep roots. The seven “soul qualities” covered in class are woven
together to create an entire tapestry that will inspire you to explore the self that serves another.
Students will come to understand the ethical conduct of professional relationships is often a
complicated and delicate topic. This learning will take you down the path of awakening,
compassion and empowerment, a path that brings forth what is necessary to offer wise and
trustworthy care to your clients. You will come to appreciate that ethics is lived teaching,
deepened by experience.
Relevance of Course:
The study and exploration of ethics reaches far beyond a professional requirement. It is more
than good intentions, knowing and following, to the best of our understanding our external code
of ethics, law and legislation. Ethics has to do with the most interesting parts of our human life
such as self-awareness, intimacy, authenticity, integrity, service, virtues, power, gratitude and
love. This approach guides you to a deeper understanding and connection with yourself. What
does it mean to truly serve another? Can we live more deeply into the self-hood that is our
birthright?
