Ethics as Soul Work Retreat Nourishment ~ Rest ~ Renewal
Massage therapy is a vocation that requires constant renewal of mind, heart and spirit if we want to avoid burnout, take joy in our work and grow in our service to others. Creating nourishing relationships with our clients is something we all desire.
However ~ the demands of our work cause many of us to lose heart, to lose our way.
Our life experiences sometimes create foggy areas where it is difficult for us to see what we are putting into our own relationships. In these foggy areas we can bump up against each other in ways that cause annoyance, depletion, or even harm.
During this retreat we will gently explore our personal foggy areas and learn some practices that can serve as fog lamps, including self-inquiry, self-care disciplines, spiritual disciplines of solitude and stillness, communication skills which foster presence, attentiveness and deep listening, and finally exploring one’s personal boundary style.
Kathy and Leora will gently take each participant on an inner journey toward reconnecting with heart & spirit ~ recovering the passion for one of the most important human endeavors ~ serving others with our touch.
There will be opportunities for self-reflection, solitude, community learning, exploring through art ~ pausing for stillness and soul renewal in a setting that is dedicated to both.
Emotions in the Session Room
Exploring the Psychological Life of the Body Massage Therapy can intervene with the patterns of the body—muscular or otherwise. These patterns often organize or hold each person’s psychological experience. Research demonstrates that our emotions accompany physiological changes. The purpose of this training is to explore the inseparable Body/Mind matrix and the ethical stance this space requires. The participant will gain an understanding of how the body organizes around experience. The participant will explore how the psychological life of the body impacts the massage therapy session, the therapeutic relationship and how you as a massage therapist can offer a safe and supportive container for your clients while remaining true to your scope of practice. Time for experiential exploration of participants mind/body connection will be offered.
* 8 CE Hours

Your Body as Beloved Partner
We spend our lives with our bodies; however we often leave the body behind. Our body often becomes a burden. Our body feels numb, perhaps stuck; our body may even feel like a stranger. As body-workers and massage therapists it is important to befriend our bodies and learn to honor our bodies in new ways.
This class is about bodies, your body and your client’s body. Kathy will take you on a journey into your body, a journey that embraces honor and respect. With new skills learned, you will then be able to offer your clients ways to connect with their body, and also deepen their experience on the massage table, while staying within your scope of practice.
Often during a massage therapy session, the client may drift into daydreams, go off into their own thoughts, or carry on a conversation. The only proof they have had a massage is oily hair and table face. In this class you will learn how to actively encourage clients to stay in their experience ~ to be present in mindful awareness. But first we will explore our own bodies ~ our capacity to sit in stillness, foster deep listening with patience and without expectation, and truly befriend our beloved partner. My hope is that you will learn to deepen your relationship with your body and from this space, your clients may discover a similar source of deep communion with their body.
